Our Story: Building Academic Potential Since 1996
Becton Prep traces its origins to 1996 in East London, United Kingdom, where it was established as a supplementary education specialist providing structured academic support in English, Mathematics and Science for school-age students.
Founded in a community facing significant socio-economic challenges and educational inequalities, Becton was built on a simple conviction: every student deserves the opportunity to develop their abilities, strengthen their academic foundations and pursue higher levels of achievement.
At its height, Becton operated three Saturday school centres, supporting hundreds of students through structured teaching, individual attention and a disciplined approach to learning. Over time, its services evolved to include personalised, one-to-one and home-based tuition, responding to the changing needs of students and families.
Throughout its history, Becton’s approach has extended beyond helping students succeed in examinations. It has focused on developing confident learners, strengthening independent thinking and establishing the habits that support lasting academic success.
Today, Becton Prep is building on this legacy with an expanded vision encompassing academic excellence, advanced technology education, computational thinking and research-led innovation.

A New Chapter: Becton Prep in Maryland
As Becton Prep expands into Maryland, and selected cities in the United States, its mission is being adapted to meet the evolving educational aspirations of students and families.
Maryland offers a distinctive environment, with established universities, research institutions, technology employers and a substantial ecosystem of scientific, computing and cybersecurity activities. Yet access to educational opportunities does not always translate into the level of academic preparation, advanced technical competence or research experience required to take full advantage of them.
Becton Prep aims to help address this preparation gap by combining its established model of structured academic development with new opportunities in advanced STEM education, technology training and research-based learning.
Beginning with families and communities in Baltimore County and Prince George’s County, the Maryland initiative is being developed around flexible online learning, small-group instruction, specialist mentoring and focused in-person academic and innovation activities.
Our ambition is to create an environment in which students are not only supported to perform better academically but are also encouraged to think independently, develop intellectual curiosity and prepare for increasingly demanding academic and professional opportunities.

Becton Elite Scholars Program

The Becton Elite Scholars Program provides structured academic preparation for ambitious and high-potential students seeking to strengthen their performance and pursue competitive college and university pathways.
Through small-group learning, personalised academic guidance and focused enrichment activities, the program emphasises:
- Advanced preparation in Mathematics, English and Science.

The program combines structured online learning with opportunities for intensive Saturday academic sessions, helping students develop the knowledge, confidence and discipline required for increasingly challenging academic environments.
Becton Tech Scholars Pathway
From Computational Foundations to Real-World Technology Skills.
The Becton Tech Scholars Pathway extends our educational mission into computing, software development and emerging digital technologies.
Developed for college-bound students, undergraduates and other aspiring technology learners, the pathway provides structured exposure to the concepts, tools and applications shaping contemporary computer science and technology careers.
Its foundational modules encompass:
- Computer Technology and Computer Science.
- Programming and Software Development.
- Cloud Computing and Infrastructure.
- DevOps and Software Delivery.
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
- Web3 and Blockchain Technologies.
- Applied development tools and platforms, including GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes and AWS technologies.
The pathway emphasises both conceptual understanding and practical application, enabling students to progress from foundational knowledge to hands-on projects, collaborative problem-solving and increasingly advanced technical challenges.
Beyond technical proficiency, the program seeks to develop computational thinking, adaptability, creativity and the capacity to understand how emerging technologies can be applied to real-world problems.
Becton Centre for Mathematical Reasoning & Intelligent Systems (BCMRIS)
Advancing Mathematical Thinking, Computational Intelligence and Technological Innovation.
A significant development in Becton’s expanding academic vision is the proposed Becton Centre for Mathematical Reasoning & Intelligent Systems (BCMRIS).
Conceived as an advanced research and innovation facility, BCMRIS will extend the Tech Scholars Pathway into more specialised areas of mathematical inquiry, computational science, software engineering and intelligent systems development.
The Centre is intended to serve college and university students, postgraduate scholars and emerging researchers, while creating opportunities for academically prepared younger scholars to participate in supervised research and innovation activities.
Its proposed areas of focus include:
- Mathematical reasoning, computational mathematics and algorithmic thinking.
- Computer science, programming and software engineering.
- Artificial intelligence, machine learning and intelligent systems.
- Applied computational research and technological innovation.
- Student-led research, software prototyping and interdisciplinary projects.
Through research mentoring, collaborative projects and prospective partnerships with universities, researchers and technology professionals, BCMRIS aims to help emerging scholars move beyond acquiring existing knowledge towards investigating new questions, developing original solutions and contributing to technological innovation.
The longer-term vision is to establish a distinctive research and innovation platform connecting advanced education, scientific inquiry, technological development and practical applications.
