Becton Tech Scholars Pathway
The Becton Tech Scholars Pathway is a specialist academic and career-readiness track designed for college-bound students and undergraduates who want structured preparation in computing, software delivery, cloud tools, and emerging digital technologies.
Built on Becton Prep’s disciplined approach to learning, the pathway combines technical foundations, guided practice, applied projects, and professional development. It is especially suitable for students preparing for undergraduate study, internships, technical certifications, entry-level technology roles, or advanced coursework in computing-related fields.
Who It Is For
This pathway is designed for students who:
- Are preparing for college-level Computer Science, Computer Technology, Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data, Cloud, or Software Development pathways
- Want structured support in practical computing and software delivery skills
- Need guided exposure to tools used in modern DevOps and cloud environments
- Are interested in Web3, Blockchain, and emerging digital systems
- Benefit from small-group instruction, applied projects, and clear progression
Pathway Modules
1. CTEC Track: Computer Technology Foundations
Students are introduced to the practical foundations of computer systems, digital tools, networks, operating environments, and technology problem-solving.
2. COSC Track: Computer Science Foundations
This track develops core computing thinking, including programming logic, algorithms, data structures, software concepts, and problem-solving approaches needed for undergraduate computing success.
3. DevOps Pipeline Development
Students learn how modern software moves from development to deployment. Topics include version control, automation, build processes, testing workflows, and continuous integration/continuous deployment principles.
4. Makefile, GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes
This practical tools strand introduces students to widely used software delivery and infrastructure tools, including:
- Makefile for build automation
- GitLab for version control and collaborative development
- Jenkins for automation and CI/CD pipelines
- Docker for containerization
- Kubernetes for container orchestration and scalable deployment
5. Web3 and Blockchain Foundations
Students explore the principles behind decentralized technologies, blockchain architecture, digital assets, smart-contract logic, and responsible innovation in Web3 environments.
6. AWS SDK and Cloud-Based Development
Students are introduced to cloud-based development using AWS SDK concepts, helping them understand how applications interact with cloud services, APIs, storage, and deployment environments.
Delivery Model
The pathway may be delivered through:
- Weekly online technical sessions
- Intensive Saturday Technology Labs
- Hybrid workshops in Maryland
- Guided project work
- Small-group mentoring
- Portfolio-building activities
Outcomes
By the end of the pathway, students should be better prepared to:
- Understand college-level computing and technology concepts
- Use selected development, DevOps, and cloud tools with greater confidence
- Approach technical problems in a structured way
- Build early project evidence for college, internship, or career applications
- Make informed decisions about computing, software, cloud, cybersecurity, Web3, or engineering pathways
Admission
Admission to the Becton Tech Scholars Pathway is selective and based on student readiness, interest, and alignment with pathway expectations.
